NICUに勤務するものにとって、赤ちゃんたちの神経発達予後に無関心であることは不可能です。私もまた駆け出しで勉強中ですが、この教科書は大変に分かりやすく、実際的だと思います。受け持ちの赤ちゃんについて、神経のことで分からないことがあったら真っ先に開く本と決めています。そしてまた私が感じる程度の疑問にVolpe先生が予め記載しておかれなかったことは今までありませんでした。
扱われる疾患は新生児神経学の中でもポピュラーな物を厳選して、病態生理について詳しく書かれてあります。稀な疾患についての百科事典的な項目の解説の羅列というスタイルは敢えて避けてあるように思います。
大部ですが英文は平易で分かりやすく、英語のまるで話せないレベルの私にも苦になりません。それでも扱う分野が分野だけに、何といっても厚いです。これを読まんと一人前の口がきけないのか思うと気が重くなります。それがこの本の唯一の欠点です。
MRIなどの技術的な解説の部分で「この点については以前の版に書いておいたからスペースを節約するために今回は書かないよ」という記述があったので、新しい本を買ってもお手元の古い版は捨てないほうがよろしいと思います。

Great resource but the Kindle version TOC doesn't match the text!

This is a gold standard resource text for neonatologists and pediatric neurologists. However my complaint is that the Kindle version has a hyperlinked table of contents that corresponds poorly with the actual material. I find it very difficult to find the beginning of chapters relative to where the hyperlink sends me (it's often more than a few pages off).

I have the hardcover edition of the book and reading through it is like having Dr Volpe sit down and share his experience with you, with references to supporting evidence in the literature. Pain-staking work of a luminary in the field. I was particularly impressed by the approach to white matter disease. Only minor gripe I have is the images are not as good as one would expect in the day of 3 Tesla MRI, but this is probably the radiologist in me nit-picking!
