Here's a new idea: a DVD for fantasy football fans.
NFL Fantasy Preview 2003-2004 dissects the popular game into a variety of topics such as how to prepare for a draft, player rankings, and roster management. It's like something you'd see on cable TV, with talking heads such as ESPN's Ron Jaworski providing opinions and analysis. A lot of the material is better suited to novices ("We call this a 'cheat sheet,'" "I believe rookie running backs can play in this league!"), but veterans of the game tend to have voracious appetites for information and will find the program worth watching. One particularly engrossing segment is a mock draft in which six participants select their teams and the analysts discuss the picks.
The program can't cover everything even over the course of 219 minutes, of course; only briefly mentioned is the popular auction format that has replaced a lot of ordered drafts, and they don't discuss how to find a league to play in. And like any fantasy magazine, the information can be dated. (An interesting option would have been a DVD-ROM linking to updated information.) So like any resource, Fantasy Preview has a lot to offer, but is only a starting place for fantasy success. --David Horiuchi
