生涯で1500以上論文（内3分の2ぐらいが共著論文）を書いたといわれ、その数学的な貢献とともに定住地、定職、家族を持たず生涯をすごした奇人としても知られるエルデシュの数学の旅。この本では大部分が50年代以前のことについて書いてあり以後のことは1章を割いているだけという欠点はあるものの彼の人生のユニークさや人柄、実績、天才ぶりについて共同研究者へのインタビューなどを元にかかれており多少数学の問題や証明が出てくるものの脳を開放して読めばそれ程苦にせず読めると思う。数学に興味のない人でも彼のユニークな人生は面白く興味深いと思う。
