This book has everything: stitch instructions and diagrams, review and sourcing of materials and beautiful projects complete with diagrams. Mountmellick Embroidery is a form of raised whitework using a melange of surface embroidery stitches. Traditional Mountmellick work utilizes only the non-mercerized Mountmellick thread and the cotton satin jean fabric. However, adventurous stitches might experiement with the traditional threads on non-traditinal jean, sateen or colored fabrics to widen the range of this beautiful embroidery.
As a previous reviewer notes, the stitch diagrams are clear and well layed out and easy to understand. The directions for knitting the traditional fringe are likewise clear and easy to follow and this aspect of Mountmellick work is rare included in the books on the subject. Finally come the projects. They are beautiful, include diagrams for transfer to the fabric, are useful in the contemporary home and could be easily modified in terms of size should the stitcher desire. Each project has several clear photos of the finished piece so that the embroiderer can refer to them while completing the project. Truly a wonderful book on this lovely form of embroidery. Recommended for both beginners to Mountmellick and those who have some experience and are looking for projects and motifs.
