This latest book in the Polish Wings series tells the story of the Russian MiG-23 jet aircraft in the Polish Air Force during the cold war. The MiG-23 was a swing-wing fighter plane - a third generation design which was the Soviet Air Force's Top Gun-equivalent aggressor aircraft from the late 1970s to the late 1980s. This book documents in detail the acquisition and operations of these Russian aircraft in Poland, and is illustrated with many previously unpublished photographs. Specially commissioned artwork depicts the colour schemes and markings of the aircraft deployed.

This book is not about the MiG-23, it's about the MiG-23 in Polish service - that means there is no developmental history of the plane, stats & data are not included in the book. It's an operational history told via a few short pages and the captions. You also get a lot of great color photos of the MiG-23 in flight, on the ground, color line drawings. These show the camouflage pattern used, unit patches, crests, nose art to very good effect.
This is not in the Squadron Walk Around series format, where every angle, aspect, detail are explored, but this book would be helpful to a modeler. I saw in another review or the product description that 1/72 scale decals are included. There is what looks to be a decal sheet, but it's on the same paper as the text and you'd have to cut that page even if they did work.
Four stars - really good photos, color line drawings are great for modelers, although there are non of the cockpit, no close ups of the landing gear, the photos are all crisp, clear, captions are all in English.
