Seriously, this is for the advanced?

Alright, let me be the first to say:
i. I think the method of learning is a great one.(eg the colors association etc)
ii. I have not completed the course
That being said, I don't know how anyone can stand listening to this. I HATE the fact that it has people who cannot speak Mandarin, BUT moreover who cannot pronounce Mandarin. The 'students' that are learning Mandarin, are plain awful at pronunciation. This is a serious problem for me;
1. I need to hear natural and native speakers pronunciation so that I can mimic it. Don't get me wrong, I never said I can pronounce any better than the students, but listening to them speak completely throws me off. And at times I'll remember what they said instead of the native speaker.
2. I choose the self-study method to get away from the people that made me sound horrible. So why am I reintroduced to them? The method may be alright for beginners -- as in your Chinese comprises of names of Chinese food, places and people -- but for an advanced learner, I think not.
Anyways, this is my rant and I really wanted to get that out there. I think this would be a much better course if they hired people that had natural, native pronunciation. If it is possible, try a sample audio file first.
Lastly I am harsh on this review because correct pronunciation is critical. Getting it right the first time is a lot easier that having to correct yourself once you have learned it the wrong way. Just think of a foreigner entering your country and speaking your language with their accent, its tough to change, so you might as well do it right from the start.

Michel Thomas Method Speak Mandarin Chinese Advanced
If you live an area where getting practice with Chinese (Mandarin) speakers is not possible this is as good a substitute as you will find. I have other courses which, although also providing audio content, do not concentrate on speaking the language naturally or are too "tourist" oriented. My other courses are also excellent with respect to correct grammar, sentence parsing, analysis and language history. The Michel Thomas method allows "participation" in almost natural conversational situations without concentrating on the other aspect of the language too much. This is just what I needed in the isolated area where I live.

Continues Marvelous Mandarin Chinese Instruction

This series teaches conversational Mandarin Chinese more easily, quickly and reliably than any other methods I have found. This "advanced" volume is really part two, following and moving beyond the 8-CD beginner's series, also created by Dr. Goodman. It is much more useful and fun than the many other audio recordings, books, and (in person) classes I have tried. Dr. Goodman's application of the Michel Thomas method keeps the learning lively, and relevant. Since it is also pleasant, the Chinese language material is learned and retained.
I am very much looking forward to continue with this method of studying Chinese. The Michel Thomas Modern Mandarin Chinese Vocabulary Course has been announced by Hodder, the British publisher of this series.
I highly recommend both the beginner's and advanced sets for those either beginning or reviewing spoken Chinese.
