内容説明

Many years of teaching led Geoff Renshaw to develop Maths for Economics as a resource which builds your self-confidence in maths by using a gradual learning gradient and constantly reinforcing learning with examples and exercises. Some students embarking on this module feel that they have lost their confidence in maths, or perhaps never had any in the first place. The author has designed the book so that whether you have a maths A level, GCSE, or perhaps feel that you need to go back over the very basics, knowledge is built up in small steps, not big jumps. Once you are confident that you have firmly grasped the foundations, this book will help you to make the progression beyond the mechanical exercises and into the development of a maths tool-kit for the analysis of economic and business problems. This is a skill which will prove valuable for your degree and for your future employers. The online resource centre contains the following resources: For Students: Ask the author forum Excel tutorial Maple tutorial Further exercises Answers to further questions Expanded solutions to progress exercises For Lecturers (password protected): Test exercises Graphs from the book Answers to test exercises PowerPoint presentations Instructor manual

Excellent introduction to mathematics for economics 2007/4/30
By Tan Aik Seng - (Amazon.com)
形式:ペーパーバック
Even those who are weak in mathematics will find this book a good beginner's guide. Excellent for those who need a self-study mathematics for economics book.

Clear explanation and easy to follow examples.
The most useful book I have encountered 2011/9/12
By M. Whited - (Amazon.com)
形式:ペーパーバック|Amazonが確認した購入
My quantitative background has never been super strong, so when I started studying economics, I frequently found myself getting lost in the quantitative problems. This book combines what you need to know from all of your various math and economics textbooks through at least the intermediate level. I ended up a aceing my classes, but I couldn't have done it without this book.

The book is exceptionally clear and shows how to work problems step-by-step. No math is introduced without showing how it can be used in economics. It starts off with the very basics, but by the end is going into differential equations, matrices, optimization of two or more variables, and integration. There are a few typos, which I assume have been corrected in the newer editions. Overall, a great text that I highly recommend to anyone struggling with their economics class at the college level or beginning master's level, or if you just need a refresher on these topics.
Great Math text to clear basics 2011/8/26
By Harshad Karandikar - (Amazon.com)
形式:ペーパーバック
By far the best Math textbook I've seen, by a considerable margin. Geoff Renshaw leaves aside the arrogance and assumptions of previous knowledge associated with many mathematics texts and delivers a clean, fresh perspective right from scratch. However uncomfortable you may be with any level of maths, this book will help clear the most fundamental of your doubts and establish a strong foundation to continue your studies in maths and/or economics.

There are several excellent points about this book:

1. Starts from the very basics, making it perfect for those unsure about where they stand
2. Extremely patient book, with considerable space devoted to getting the reader comfortable with the topic
3. Extensive cross-referencing within the text, even for the most basic concepts. You never have to think 'now where did I read that before?'
4. Generates real interest in economics, especially for those wary about the subject and the woodoo that it often looks like

A combined study of this text with a basic micro or macro economics text would work really well.
