Marriage At His Convenience (Wedlocked) (Presents, 2196) [ペーパーバック]

I can not believe this book is classified as a romance. There is none. There is definatley no Hero, I felt so sorry for the Heroine, but in the end I thought she was just TSTL, sympathy only goes just so far. The Jerk takes her virginity and they live together for a year, but even though she was innocent he thinks that she was innocent because she was living with two gay guys and didn't have a chance to have sex before he came along, so yes she's a slut in the making. He decides to marry a good Greek girl who's supposed to be a virgin and only wants to stay at home and have his babies. The Jerk and the Heroine are still living together he has plans to tell her their affair is finished but they both go to a party where his fiancee tells the heroine that they are having a big engagement party next weekend and that she's invited. She also confides to the heroine that she's had plenty of lovers before (even though she's only 18) and she finds the Jerk booring well serve him right, she's only marring for money and freedom. My heart went out to the heroine she loved the jerk, and he told her he never loved her and that basically she was a slut, and then rubbed it in how much he loved his wife tobe. The heroine has to see photo's of them in the paper the engagement and wedding photo's, she suffers from a total loss of self worth after he dishes all that crap at her. She see's them together about a year later and the wife is pregnant. It's soul destroying for her. Now this is where I think she is TSTL, 5 years, she inherits shares in his company and he blackmails her to marry him. She even falls into bed with him before they marry. What is up with this woman, hello, where is your self respect, I really don't think that anyone would want to be in the same room with this jerk let alone sleep with him after what he's done. She of course has kept herself pure for him. He is jealous because someone has asked her to marry him and he spits the dummy, hello he dumped her after he got engaged to his wife, called her a slut said that is all she will ever be, blackmails her into marrying him. He tells her he is sorry, but all this happens after his father has died and he has divorced his wife, never once has he put her before anything, she was supposed to just sit around for 5 years and remain pure while he slept with his wife and got her pregnant. While telling her sorry, he explains that his wife wasn't a virgin on their wedding night, I'm sure she really wants to hear about him sleeping with his wife. Then he said that he accepted that she wasn't a virgin and tried to make the marriage work, I mean wasn't she the good Greek wife who was a virgin and stayed home to have kids, no this was a druggie and spendthrift, some could say he got what he deserved. His child was still born and he put his wife into rehab and divorced her. The exwife now pregnant and married to a doctor is happy, life's good for some. The jerk says sorry and she just jumps into his arms. HELLO, HELLO, do you think I'm stupid. No way does this guy get off with just a little I'm sorry after what he put the heroine through. Are we supposed to feel sorry for him, I don't think so. Are we supposed to feel so grateful that he tells the heroine that he loves her, I don't think so, this is a guy you would never trust again, this guy you would cross the street to get away from. This is NOT a romance book. This Jerk should be transplanted into a horror story as the victim. This heroine should get her self a life, she's really TSTL. But guess what I'm the really stupid one because I'm the one that read this book, and I'm the one suffering all sort of angst over a jerk but worse is the heroine accepting all the crap he dishes out. Oh for a good romance.

What really bothered me about this book was that the hero, after taking the heroine's virginity, just dumps her and marries someone else. Throughout the entire book he seems to only be using her and not really care about her at all. And his reason that he gives for dumping her without a word does not in anyway justify it or make me sympathetic toward his character. Apparantly, he felt that even though she was a virgin she was so uninhibited he felt she would turn into a slut and break his heart and that is why he just up and married someone else. The hero was a complete slime up until the very end, he never redeems himself.

The "hero" of this book is such a mean, cruel man. I mean, usually, the hero just says that he doesn't feel anything for the leading lady because he fears he might be viewed as vulnerable or unmanly. However, this is one hero who is literally the "love em and leave em" types with love being a figurative word here. The leading lady, Amber, is so obsessed with him, not only does she beg him not to leave her- ugh! - she lets him have sex with her even after he has virtually left her. It is like looking at a truly S&M relationship and it was not at all pleasant, I gotta tell you. This book was so twisted that it almost made me go off romance fiction altogether. It's that bad !
