アメリカで発行されているMake Magazineの日本語版です。「礼儀正しい」工作よりは「ジャンク」で「おいおいそうくるか」といった工作記事が満載です。単なる日本語訳でなく、使用している材料の日本での入手方法などに関しても注釈がついています。工作記事のほかにグレートな工作人（？）のインタービューなどものっています。永遠の工作少年にお勧めします。

何でもお金を出せば手に入る、そんな時代に
一石を投じる・・・いや、そんなに構える必要は無いな。
自分で何でも作りたい！そんな工作好きの本だ。

猫の餌やり機、カメラスタビライザ、自作潜水艦、
常温核融合に電気自動車、原付ショッピングカートなど。

それらの記事は設計図が示されてるのではないが、
読むだけで童心に返ってワクワクしてしまうような、
「何かを作り出す」スピリットに満ち溢れている。

ブラックボックスのような製品が増えているが、
自分で何かを作り出す喜びを思い出してみないか。
固くなった頭をほぐしながら、ワクワクしよう！

中学生や高校生諸君が読んだら、夏休みにでも
すぐに何かを創り出したくなるんじゃないかな。

英語版のMakeを読んでいたのですが、まさに「大人のための工作本」という感じで、本当に楽しい1冊です。パソコン書でも電子回路本などでもない、なんともビミョーな位置の本・・・でもだからこそ他には類を見ない雑誌として自分は大好き。電子工作とかが好きな人には是非おすすめ。日本版の創刊号にはビデオデッキで猫のえさやり機を作る方法を紹介してるみたいで、「なぜビデオデッキで？」と思い、ネットで調べると、どうやらビデオデッキのタイマーを連動させて、指定した時間にえさが供給される仕組みらしい。時間をセットできるなんて！ただの、おふざけ工作だと思っていたけど、実は実用性に優れているかも。オライリーの雑誌は、レイアウトやデザインもおしゃれなので、持っているだけで楽しくなるのだけど、日本版も表紙から察してかなりいい感じっぽい。
こんな雑誌を待っていた、って感じ。
