Love with a Western Woman: A Guide for Japanese Men (英語) ペーパーバック – 2012/12/1

I am a 38 years old Japanese guy who has been living in the USA for 14 years. I always thought that most American/Western women are not interested in Asian men in general (as you may know, Japanese girls are very popular in the global market on the contrary). When my Japanese guy friend talked about this book, I was very surprised to hear it and wondered if there is such a book existing in the world. Then, I goggled the book, found it and got it at Amazon.com I read through the book within a few days (the English is not too hard if you study abroad in English countries). Then, I would say if you are a Japanese guy and want to date Western women, you must read it. As living in the USA for a long time, I get so many questioners about American dating by Japanese guys especially if they have never dated American women. It is usually very hard to answer those questions because every American woman is different. Also, the explanations sometimes involve my personal experience, so sometimes you do not want to disclose too much to others. But the author, Caroline Pover, is a really brave English lady, she does not hesitate to expose herself into Japanese culture, and she describes about her personal experience regarding Japanese men on the book. Also, she made many interviews with Western women who lives in Japan, summarized their answers and archived general opinions about dating with Japanese men. I actually have to agree with the most opinions about Japanese men. Somehow, we tend to be nervous when we talk to Western women (I think it is related to our English complex). Somehow, we tend to forget women in public places by reading newspaper with nude photos. This book will probably give you some thoughts to think about ourselves and how to communicate with Western women. I know that there are MANY Japanese guys who wish to date Western women, but they just wish and do not make any actions. So, let's study a foreign language and get out of a cul‐de‐sac. I just hope that someday Japanese guy will be an icon as sex symbol and will get a status as the same as Japanese women have. I would highly recommend you to read this book even as an English text book. Maybe, it might be more interesting than any other regular English text books because it involves some "secret" parts between men and women. :)

This is a really interesting and unique book of advice specifically for Japanese men who want to date Western women, either living in Japan or abroad. This book might be a lifesaver for some of you!

This book contains a lot of brutally honest discussion, both good and bad. The first chapter discusses stereotypes western women may have of you (Japanese men) in a very forthright manner. It also gives advice for positive ways to overcome the stereotypes. There's a great pep talk about the reasons women may find you attractive.

The dating section lays out a lot of tips for initiating contact and how a western woman might expect you to behave on a date. Where to take her, what physical contact or kissing is expected, etc. The options for kissing during a date are explained in great detail because I think this is a new territory for Japanese men.

The sex chapter also explains some differences that you might not expect. It explains contraception and "foreplay" too. The unspoken signals leading up to sex are different.

The Getting Serious chapter talks about family reactions, divisions of household responsibility, and how a western style wedding works.

Since I am a western woman none of the advice in the book was a surprise to me, but it was a little revealing what aspects might be unfamliar to a Japanese man, and if I am ever lucky enough to date a Japanese guy this book will surely come in handy. It's an interesting addition to my library of culture/intercultural books.

I found this book a fast read (90 pages), it may take you 1-2 hours to read. Available only in English.
