A fantastic reason to get lost

Things are amok in the world of the Blue Bloods, beautiful and rich vampires with otherwordly origins. Half vampire Schuyler Van Alen is traveling with her vampire love, Jack Force, through Egypt in search of one of the elusive Gates that is part of her heritage. Meanwhile, vampire socialite queen Mimi (also Jack's sister) is getting closer in her quest to getting the man she loves back from Hell. As an added bonus, readers can see one certain character's story in more detail in this book.
I started reading the BLUE BLOODS a few months ago, and while I found the constant jumping around from character in each chapter mind boggling, it's very well done in this installment of the series. Melissa De La Cruz has finally hit the mark with this book. Long gone are the drops to designer labels and vapid rich kids; hello, action and peril! The stakes are higher than ever before.
Each of the characters has developed into a three dimensional person in his and her own right, especially Mimi. This is a girl on a mission, and nothing's going to stop her. Some of her choices are unsavory, and while I don't agree, I was there with her on her journey. Some other character choices are cringe inducing, but the story is so much fun I'm only cringing a little bit.
Descriptions of places are fully detailed, sometimes too much. Some of the dialogue is over the top and could have been condensed. And while I don't agree with the "I would die without you!" mentality some of the characters have, this is definitely the best book in the series so far. Things happen with good reason. It's a shame it's so close to the end when it finally started to evolve.

Perfect Addition

This novel was absolutely amazing. I'm not going to lie, I didn't exactly read all of it at first, because the only characters that I really care about are Schyler and Jack. It was the perfect addition to the rest of the novels, but be forewarned- there is only ONE NOVEL LEFT! Sadly it is not going to be released until January of 2013 and I am so sad that it is almost over. I have read these books from the very beginning and fell in love after the first page. This book followed the stories of Schy/Jack, Mimi/Oliver/Kingsley, and Charles/Allegra/Ben. It was a great addition and it makes you long for the last addition, I personally am chomping at the bit for 2013 to come along. Definitely purchase this book if you are a Blue Bloods fanatic because it is the best one yet! With many exciting tales and a surprising ending, you will not be able to put the book down from the moment you start.

First Impression:
As a long time fan of this series, I have been waiting for things to hit the fan. Both plot and character wise. With so many threads going on, I have been dying for the series to begin to climax. And it looked like I may be finally able to get this with Lost in Time.

While Reading:
Lost in Time, from the beginning, had a different feel to it than most of the other Blue Blood books. In a way, I almost want to say it has that honeymoon feel. The lull before the storm, so to speak. Nothing felt rushed. But there was so much laid on the table. With some answers that I have been longing to get answered, finally resolved.
Like all the books before it, Lost in Time is told from multiple POVs focusing on each's plot thread. Jack and Schuyler. Mimi, Oliver, and Kingsley. And finally, Charles and Allegra. While I loved each group in their own way, I was most excited about being able to finally get a glimpse into Charles and Allegra's lives, their past.
To be honest, I am really torn on this book. Some of it, I liked. The heart-break. The sacrifice. The continuation of the journey. But the other stuff left me just a little disappointed.
Well, maybe I am just more disappointed in the female characters more than anything. One of my biggest draws for the Blue Blood series was the female characters. Strong, independent, their own person. But as the series has progressed, I find that even our strongest female, Mimi, has been brought down.
Was it due to love? Being able to find compassion for others? I don't know. But part of the appeal for me was the opposing sides of Schuyler and Mimi. Almost like dark vs. light, but with everything now becoming gray. Did I expect Mimi to go the whole series without changing? No. But I just hate to see her brought down in this manner.
Final Verdict:
Lost in Time may not be my favorite of all the Blue Bloods books. But I still enjoyed it. The series hooked me in the beginning and I am determined to see it through.
In a way, Lost in Time was a build up for the final book due out in 2013. What will the final book hold? I don't know. But I can't wait to see how everything ends.
