2003年3月に出版された第4版（ISBN 0582776465）のアップデート版です。印刷された辞書本体の内容は以前の版とほとんど同じですが、CD-ROMの内容が大幅に強化･拡充されていて、主要な見出し語の中の例文についても音声が含まれています。CD-ROM付きの版を買い求められるならば、こちらの版をお勧めします。

本書は中級以上の学習英英辞書としては完成の域に達しているのではないかと感じられるほどですが、あのOxford Advanced Lerner's Dictionaryが第7版に改訂されていますので、本書についても次の改訂版が楽しみです。

アメリカ・イギリス　両方の発音が収録されているのは単語に関してのみなのでご注意。例文それぞれについても音声が収録されているのは嬉しいけれど、そちらはイギリス英語の発音のみ。それがとても残念だったので、星4つ。

パソコンにマイクをつけてやれば、自分で発音したものを録音し、例文（単語）の発音と聞き比べることも簡単にできるようになっている。これはとっても楽しい。

WindowsとMac（OSX 10.2 or later）用のCD-ROMがついてくる。
むしろ書籍のほうがもれなくついてくるオマケといった感じ。
この値段で、英英辞典、（類義語、反対語も表示）、英文法、エクササイズ、
発音（英米各、ただし、MacはCD-ROMを銜えさせておく必要あり、また、Mac
は、新しいQuickTimeだと音声が出ないというバグがあるから
longmanのサイトよりパッチをダウンロードする必要がある。

起動も遅いし、どんくさいところもあるが（笑）
このねだんで、このたっぷり満足感。
中級学習者の味方である。
