Chris Johnson has proved again his exceptional technical and writing skills with this book which I found easy to read, very clear, with an excellent structure and comprehensive content.
What I like in particular is the schematic approach that allows to focus on a particular topic without having to read the whole book from the beginning. But also at the same time an A to Z reading allows the reader to get a clear and comprehensive picture of the new LTE architecture.
Definitely a must have on the shelf of every radio designer or optimiser who wants to get ready on what's coming next.

Excellent reference for LTE Engineers

Well I have been through various LTE books but there is no match for this one. I only needed some reference book for LTE and this satisfies all my need. I am really impressed with Chris Johnson writing skills and the way he makes topic easier for the audience.
Whenever I need to know about some topic in LTE if I read 3GPP spec or some internet guide but in the end its this book that gives me the answer.. There is not much theoretical stuff included. This book is so far my all time favourite LTE book. A MUST MUST have for LTE Engineer.
I also had Chris UMTS book and now this one and definitly all the books from chris in future too.

Easily Referenceable LTE Overview

For a practitioner in LTE, this is one of the best books around. It is succinct, clearly written, and well organized - key qualities desired by practitioners. Topics are well structured into chapters and subheadings and one can understand each chapter independently. Not only are the lower layers (Layer 1, 2 and 3) covered well, but system aspects (eg. attach, location management, bearer/session management) are also covered in some detail. However, if one is interested in system aspects of features such as emergency services or broadcast services, one would still need to plough though the standards documents.
I refer to this book all the time and often carry it with me in my backpack. The one negative thing about the black and white version is that the figures do not come alive. Since the second edition is out now, I have decided to plunk down the extra dough and get the color version of the second edition! The book in the backpack will, I believe, still continue to be this compact first edition.
