For whirl-wind tours

I've used prior editions of this book on my travels. It's a good book if you're looking to do a whirl-wind 2 week to 2 month tour of mostly western europe. If you have more or less time you should certainly be looking at other more detailed books. (If you have less than say 2.5 weeks, you should probably also be focusing your trip more geographically). But it's good to give you a _quick and basic_ idea of what to do and see and where to stay.
Countries covered:
Ireland, Britain, The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France (Including Corsica), Italy (Including Sardinia Sicily), Spain, Portugal, and Greece. Also Liechtenstein and Andorra (and Monaco and Vatican city!), but those hardly count as countries. I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere on Amazon or shown in the preview.

Sub-par for Lonely Planet

I almost exclusively have used Lonely Planet guidebooks, and this one was a real disappointment. I know it's an entire half a continent guide, but the hotel options were extremely limited, as were the restaurant suggestions. I would recommend sticking to the individual country guides and may even branch out from my Lonely Planet loyalty after this flop.

NOT for budget travelers

With this guidebook, Lonely Planet definitively breaks with its backpacker roots and joins the ranks of Fodor's and Frommer's in appealing to middle-class and wealthy travelers. Most city listings have no "budget" places to sleep at all--no hostels, etc. Budget travelers would do better with the Rick Steves books or other budget-oriented titles.
