I think this book is a bit misleading and virtually a con since it includes Portugal, which does not have an inch of its territory on the Mediterranean, and Morocco which is not even in Europe.
It also includes material on places like Paris which are a long way from the Mediterranean, even though France has part of its coast on the Med, and Marrakesh which lies inland away down towards the Atlantic.
Venice, Croatia and Istanbul may technically be "Mediterranean" but I would associate Venice and Croatia more with the Adriatic and Istanbul with the Bosphorus and Black Sea.
I think Lonely Planet would have been better producing a guide either to the Mediterranean as a whole, including places like Egypt, or one that stuck more closely to those areas with markedly Med features which Paris, Lisbon, Madrid etc definitely do not have.
