1975年7月18日ロンドンの中心地にあるダンス・ホール、レイシアムを会場に選んでのライヴ。冒頭のMCが叫ぶ、『トレンチタウンの体験を!』。かくてマーリィの歌・ウェイラーズの演奏・リタ・マーリー、ジュディ・モワット、マーシャ・グリフィスから成る女性コーラス隊、アイ・スリーズと観客がまさに一体となるライヴが始まる。ライヴというのは観客とひとつになるためにあるのだと気がつくアルバムである。
何といっても鳥肌が立つのは5『ノー・ウーマン・ノー・クライ』だ。ジャマイカのリズムが彼らの手によって世界に認知された瞬間である。そこはロンドンの中心であるのにまるでジャマイカのキングストンのトレンチ・タウンでライヴをしているような錯覚におちいる。1945年2月5日の生誕の日からガンと脳腫瘍で死す1981年5月11日(おお、あさっては命日だ)までの36年の短い生涯の魂が観客全員の魂と交信しあい瞬いているのを感じることが出来る。もはや誰が演奏しているとか誰が聴いていることが大切なのではなくて、誰もが感じていることが大切なのだと教えてくれる。

決して経験したわけではないライヴなのに、間違いなく聴くものも交信を開始して同時体験的なハートフルな一体感に取り込まれる幸せを感じられる唯一のライヴだ。

　レゲエ＝ボブ・マーリィとの出会いは、昔むかしにさかのぼる。今から何十年か前の話である。ＮＨＫのヤングミュージックショーという番組があり、初めてボブを見た。別にボブ見たさにチャンネルを入れたのではない。とても充実した番組であり、海外アーチストを見る機会が乏しかったから、見ただけだった。変てこなヘアースタイル、カッタルイリズム。何じゃこれと思いながら見いていた。しかし、いつの間にかリズムに乗っている自分がいた。まるで麻薬の（薬はやったことがないので良く分かりませんが）様なリズムと化していました。特に、後半戦の盛り上がりと言ったら異常だった事を今でもはっきり憶えています。
No Woman,No CryにGet Up Stand Upが耳から離れない。心に残って離れない。この世の中には、こんな音楽もあるんだと感銘した。この時期のライヴアルバムがこれ。悪いはずがない。素晴らしいに決まっている。

今でも夏になるとこのアルバムが聞きたくなる。レゲエのリズムに身を委ね、ボブの音楽に酔いしれ、ボブのメッセージを考える。何度も何度も繰り返して聞いてしまう。やっぱり名盤です。

ボブ・マーリーが絶頂期の頃のライブ盤である。レゲエの心地良いリズムによって陶酔感が味わえる。この当時、ジョージ・ハリソン等もボブのライブに行っていたそうである。

「I Shot the Sheriff」はエリック・クラプトンが取り上げた事で一躍有名になった曲。クラプトンのアレンジは流石にロックっぽいが、オリジナル曲は緩やかで包み込むようなアレンジになっている。そして、何と言っても代表曲は「No Woman, No Cry」だろう。レゲエの真骨頂とも言えるリズムの心地良さは無論の事、前記の「I Shot the Sheriff」と言い、本曲と言い、歌詞が体制を厳しく批判する内容である点が光る。ボブが単なる歌手としてではなく、ジャマイカの大衆の意見を代表する英雄として扱われたのもうなづける。この他の曲も、聴く者を大きく包み込むレゲエの良さを表現したものが多く、まさにレゲエの真髄とも言えるアルバムである。

スケールの大きなレゲエの心地良いリズムに身を委ねながら、ピカリと光る歌詞を味わえる傑作ライブ・アルバム。
