駅の売店で何気なく目に留まって、何というわけではないけれど、何か惹かれるものを感じて買った本です。翻訳を五木寛之さんがされていることには、読み終わってから（あとがきを読んで）気づきました（笑）。

こういう直感で買った本は、たいてい「当たり」のことが多いのですが、この本は、最近買った本の中では最高の「当たり」だったと思います。文章だけでなく装丁も挿絵も非常に美しい本で、挿絵が多く入っていて文章量は少なく、どちらかというと大人向けの絵本に近いような本です。物語自体も、「チーズはどこへ行った？」のような冒険（？）もなく、非常に地味でシンプルなものです。しかしこの物語からは、読む人によって様々な意味を汲み取ることができるでしょう。

私もまだ、作者が何を言いたいのかよく意味がわからない部分もありますが、この本は、訳者も言われているように「右脳的な寓話」であり、理屈ではなく心で感じる物語なのだと思います。そしてまた、この本はきっと、他の名著と同じように、これから何度も読み返すたびに、新たな発見を与えてくれるような気がします。

とりあえず、主人公のアジサシと同じように今「飛べない」状態になっている私には、非常に心に染みるものがありました。人生の目標を見失ってしまった人、何がどうというわけではないけれど毎日の生活に「生きがい」を感じられず無気力な日々を送っている人、挫折を感じて再び立ち上がる気力を失ってしまった人、そういうすべての「飛べなくなってしまった」人たちに、ぜひお勧めします。

絵が綺麗な大人向け絵本

飛べなくなった鳥と、何かを見失って、前に進めない時の自分が重なる。
この本に出会ってからは、そういう時はジタバタしないで、じっとする事にしている。
勢い良く進む日もあれば、立ち止まる日もある。
どちらも楽しめる、そんな風な生き方が出来たらいいな。

この物語は暗く、低く、という内容で書かれているようだが、私はそんな風には感じなかった。

「失くしたのではなく、置き忘れた」

のである。
モノトーンの世界から鮮やかな有色の世界への飛び立ちを描く作品に感じた。

主人公が再び空へと飛べたてたのはなぜか？それは本書中にも出てくるが「求める気持ち」部分だと思う。

原作は読んでいないが、想訳の五木さんが言うように、きっと原作と同じような雰囲気が醸し出されているのだろうなと感じる作品だった。
挿絵も一枚一枚素晴らしく、あっという間に読み終えてしまった、久しぶりいい作品だった。
