I bought this book for my youngest child and it quickly became a favorite for the entire family. Now my grandchildren love it as well, and I have been searching for more copies of it because ours is falling apart with overuse! It is full of wonderfully vivid language and descriptions, and the repetition invites children to "memorize" the poem. This allows them to feel as if they are actually reading along about all those clever cats from all over the world that know how to do such magnificent things. In contrast is the ordinary cat, much like our own furry felines, who likes nothing better than to hide in boxes. The extrordinary illustrations promote visual stimulation for a child who cannot yet read. Part of the fun of the book comes from trying to find the cat hiding in the various boxes. I can't say enough good things about it. I enjoy it so much that I have actually used it in my classroom as a writing prompt with excellent results. This book is great for siblings to read to each other, and is a delight to read all alone. It is a shame that it is out of print. My Cat Likes to Hide in Boxes by Eve Sutton is a superb book on many levels and I highly recommend it to parents, children, and educators alike!
