Another first, the new edition of Life is printed on paper earning the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) label, the "gold standard" in green paper products. Life paper includes 10% pre-consumer waste, 10% post-consumer waste, and is manufactured from wood from well-managed sustainable forests. Additionally, Life's green initiatives include:

* Covers printed on stock with 10% post-consumer waste
* 100% recycled paper coverboards

この本は従来の日本の生物学の教科書とは全く異なり次のような特徴を持っています。（１）各章の初めにあるイントロダクションが面白く、本文を読もうという意欲がわいてくる。（２）どのページも写真、イラストが大部分を占めしかも非常に分かりやすい（図だけ見ていても理解ができるくらい図版がよくできている）。（３）各所に新しい知見が挿入されている（第９版では付属のDVDに新しい章が増補され、さらに最新の知見を学ぶことができる）。
最近、この本のいいとこ取りをして、面白そうなところだけ翻訳出版されています（アメリカ版大学生物学の教科書）。しかし、動物生物学、生態学と生物地理学などもぜひ読んでいただきたい。MITでは全学生がこの本を学んでいるそうです。日本の教科書はあまりにも薄すぎます。私も４年前にこの本の第７版を翻訳して理工系出版社に当たってみましたが、日本ではこんなに分厚い本は売れないといって断られました。心ある日本の学生さんぜひ原本で読了されることを期待します。

don't waste your time

This book has so many mistakes in it, especially typos, you'll be pulling hairs out of your head. The author for some reason does not group things in the most optimal ways. Give unnecessary amount of details, none of which are important and none of which you will be tested on. The worst thing about this author is that he/she does not use direct language to get his point across, for example instead of saying _______ is large, the author is likely to say something like: ________ is not the smallest creature in its kingdom, infact some may argue that it could be quite large. wtf??? The authors use of ambiguous and indirect language will have you confused as hell, save your money and buy yourself another textbook
