I wasn't very motivated at losing weight, but I bought this book anyway. It was just great. I lost 12 pounds in the first week. As I said, I'm not a very motivated person, so I didn't stay on the program for long. 12 pounds was all I really wanted to lose, but keeping in line with most of Larry North's guidelines, I have managed to keep the weight off. The book includes recipes that are very good and easy to cook. It also includes 60 second workouts that are easy to do and also requires that you do cardio excercise (Larry North suggests walking). There is also a 7 Day Sizedown for those of you looking to lose weight quickly, however, I didn't try that. This is a great book for those looking to lose weight by changing eating habits and exercising.

This was one of the greatest investments I have ever made in bettering my health and fitness. My former physician kept cutting my calories and increasing my exercise and wouldn't believe me that I was following her advise because I kept gaining weight each year for several years. In a nutshell, she was starving me and I gained more than 50 pounds in 3 years. I was tired and unhealthy.
In frustration and desperation to get fit, I purchased this book. I am happy to say that 15 months later I have lost 60 pounds and six dress sizes. I am a healthy weight and have never felt better. I feel like and look like I did in my 20s!
If you are fighting a weight problem and want to get healthy and fit, I highly recommend this book. It's easy to follow this plan and it is not a diet...it's a lifestyle you can follow for life. Larry North walks you step by step through the program so it really is goof-proof. Also, he is a realist and preaches the 80-20 mentality...do the program 80% of the time and you will be 100% successful. I am living proof that his program works.
Again, I cannot begin to tell you how pleased I am with the book and the results I have attained from following the program outlined in the book. I think if you buy it and follow the program correctly you will be pleased with the results too.

I have tried so many diets I can't even count them anymore. I have tried various other way-of life-diet plans with little or temporary success. This book is so straight forward, simple and easy that I sometimes wonder why I ever thought eating healthfully was hard...and this is a pizza-fried chicken-Little Debbie kind of girl! So far I have lost 10 lbs in 9 days...a feat that I have NEVER accomplished before. (Remember, it's different for everyone so you may not all lose like that.) In addition, I'm not at all hungry; lord knows if I was I wouldn't be sticking to it! I love his motivational bits as well...the majority of overeating really has to do with the mind rather than actual hunger; that he focuses on changing negative patterns and thoughts is very important. In addition, I find the voice of the book very friendly and encouraging. Also, the cheat meal being incorperated in the plan is wonderful: instead of feeling guilty and continuing to break the plan, you feel like a cheat meal is a deserved reward, guilt free! If you're looking for a book that will lose the weight for you magically, it's not the book for you. You have to work: on your mind, your eating, and your physical activity. But work is great when it's to improve your life! I have noticed tremendous changes in my attitude and behavior, and would highly reccomend this book to anyone who needs a sensible, non-time-consuming plan.

This is a excellent book for teaching you the basics of how your metabolism works and how your body can burn fat by choosing some alternatives in your diet/cooking, and eating 4 or 5 times a day instead of twice. Exercise is 15 to 20 minutes a day of walking and some weigh work with simple very small dumbbells. This is more straight forward and practical than Covert Bailey's Fit or Fat, but less complete. This program will work even, if you are morbidly obese. This is not a diet this is a lifestyle change.
Personally, I have lost 30 pounds in 5 months and no longer have sleep apnea (restricted airway during sleep). My ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder ) is greatly dimished. I am more relaxed, have more energy, and have higher metabolism. I also look better and my confidence is up, and I'm dating more often.

Great Diet Book! 2005/5/20

The book is more about a lifestyle change than a diet. It is a 21 day program that teaches you to eat five meals a day. You will never go hungry on this diet because you are constantly eating. Eating five meals a day is hard. Obviously there must be a "catch." The catch is that you are eating healthy foods. The 21 day program gradually transitions you into eating five meals a day and eating healthy food. If you follow the program, you will lose weight.

The sample meal is a grilled chicken breast, a baked potato and a cup of fibrous vegitable. Who could be hungry on such a meal. The challenging is that all of the meals must be low fat (20% fat or less) and low sugar. If you have a non-supportive significant other you may need to cook two meals, one for you and one for them. If you want to do the program, buy a bunch of small tupperware containers and pre-make your meals.

The book is written for a target audience of women (you can tell because the mentioning about exercise plays down building muscle). The primary exercise is walking. I am a man. All in all, it is a great book! I bought the book for $7, when Larry North was selling his program on TV for a couple of hundred dollars. It is sad to see this book sell for $0.68 cents used.
