ザ・ヴァーヴはブリッツポップの一位になるまで、成功の連続、世界一の祝歌と、戦い続けてきたが、解散以来ヴォーカルのリチャード・アシュクロフツの詩才はあまり日のめを見なくなってきていた。最近では、「ワーイ・ノット・ナッシング」での強気で頑固な歌詞が記憶に残る。アシュクロフトの、クラシック調で感情の込もった新しい曲作りは、以前のブリティッシュ・ポップの荒々しさがなくなっている。「キーズ・ツー・ザ・ワールド」はウェラーズの2000アルバムの「ヘリオセントリック」と同じだけ儲けたはずだ。それにしても主な見所は二箇所あり、ひとつはついうっとりしてしまう「ワーズ・ジャスト・ゲッツ・イン・マイ・ウェイ」で、コールドプレイの「フィックス・ユー」ヴァイオリンの華麗な吹奏と似て、泣ける曲だ。もうひとつのハイライトは、アシュクロフトが、「また僕の人生は何もかもがうまくいきだした」と歌う、「ワールド・キープス・ターニング」で、この曲は、最後の曲として、誇り高くそしてあっという間にこのアルバムを終わらせてくれる。
