After years of studying Japanese, the "Kanji in Context" series is by far the best kanji study series I have encountered.There really is no "magic method" to learning kanji, but this series lays out the tracks for you, so that all you have to do is provide the effort and serious study time to be well on your way to literacy. Also, kanji-based vocabulary is introduced in order of usefulness, so you'll find yourself learning useful words with every lesson. Kanji are not much use when memorized one at a time "out of context," so it's great to learn actual coumpound words that a kanji is used in right away. If you're really serious about learning kanji, buy this book and the two accompanying workbooks! In fact, All the language-study materials I've seen published by The Japan Times are of the utmost quality!

タイトルどおり、contextにおける漢字という観点から作成された教材。
各回'T〜'Vに分かれているが、'Vで使われている例文における言葉の使われ方としてはいくつか疑問が残る。
また、この教材は北米の日本語教育機関で長年行われてきた漢字教育から生み出されたものだとまえがきに書かれているが、わがままを言えば、この教材を用いて、どういう形で授業を進めていったのかなど具体的な教授方法や、学習方法などももう少し詳しく記載してほしいところ。

This is an excellent text. As you progress through the lessons, kanji that have been learned in prior lessons are reviewed. Additionally, the language used is that of the well-educated in Japan. It was intended as a an introductory course for those heading into graduate studies or other employment requiring highly articulate skills in Japanese.
One caveat is that you should probably learn how to write the kanji themselves before you attempt this course. If you have already completed, for example, Book I of 'Remembering the Kanji' by Heisig, then you will have the level of kanji necessary to retain the heavy load of vocabulary expected by 'Kanji in Context'. Remembering the Kanji I: A Complete Course on How Not to Forget the Meaning and Writing of Japanese Characters Vol. 1 4th Edition (Japanese Edition)
