ＹＭＯの坂本龍一、ＹＭＯ初期のツアーメンバーである、矢野アッコさん、渡辺香津美を含むセッションでＹＭＯでもやって在広東少年も含んでいますが全体的なサウンドはジャズです。まだ若い彼らのエネルギッシュなセッションは聞いてみる価値あります。残念なのは当時のレコードの都合で曲の途中でフェードアウトしている曲をＣＤでは再編集して完全にして欲しかったことです。

1979年6月15・16・17日Live録音。
本作は何しろ若い才能溢れる面々のパワーが満ちあふれた大傑作だ。当然香津美も光っているが、矢野顕子が光っている。トーマス・ドルビーの『She Blinded Me With Science』でも彼女の希有なボーカルは登場するが、最高なのは本作の『在広東少年』だと思う。

この頃大学生だった僕はシアワセにもこの頃の彼のライブを聴くことができた。このライブではないがメンバーはほぼ同じ。メンバーが若くてみんなバリバリだった。別件で武道館でYMOのライブも聴きに行ったりもした。あまりに観衆がうるさいので坂本龍一が一括したのを覚えている。たしかラベルの曲か何かを中間で弾いた時だった。

香津美の生の第一印象は背が小さい人なんだなあということと、手が大きいなぁというものだった(確か前から3列目くらいで見た)。そして弾き出した時、これは凄い世界に通じる日本人ミュージシャンはこの人だけだと思った。実際演奏家として、その判断は正しかったと今も思える。推薦!!

この作品を手にした当時は、はっきり言って香津美氏目当てではありませんでした。坂本龍一、矢野顕子、渡辺香津美とＹＭＯワールドツアーの面々がいたことでそれ以上のパフォーマンスが展開されているのではという期待があったからでした。しかし、中味はテクノとは遠いナンバーばかりで初めて聴いた時は、これじゃないと嘆きました。

しかし！本作品はライブならでわの緊張感、ドライブ感が伝わってきて香津美氏のスリリングなギタープレイが冴え渡っています。さらにサポート陣はすごいプレーヤーばかりで全員ソロ作品を発表している今ではサウンドクリエーター達で固められていて、こんな豪華な顔ぶれのセッションは今では不可能でしょう。

特に本田俊之氏との最初の出会いは本作品でして、彼がとてもエネルギッシュなパフォーマンスをしています。
