著者について
Susan Briscoe, who lives in the U.K., is a textile designer, author, and teacher, specializing in sashiko and Japanese textile design. Briscoe taught English teacher Japan, where she also studied the tea ceremony, traditional textiles, and kimono design and tailoring. She has created design kits for Japanese patchwork fabrics, published textile projects in books and magazines, and demonstrates her work at quilt and textile shows. She is the author of Japanese Quilt Blocks to Mix and Match, published by Kodansha America.

A for Inspiration C- for Instructions

This book is very inspirational for an intermediate to advanced quilter. I do believe a much better job could have been done on instruction and editing of the individual blocks. The print for cutting detail is extremely small, assembly instructions are difficult to follow. Actually, I redrafted all of the blocks I have used so far and found a few mistakes, and I believe incomplete instructions. I would not recommend this book for any but advanced quilters. Some of the photography of blocks is misleading since they are not quilted and the seams show through giving the appearance of more complexity than there actually is.

All the blocks in this book are 9" square , so to me you can have as many as you like to either make a quilt or a table runner by just adding another square.The squares look involved but when you read the instructions and see the diagrams, it doesn't look that hard.My problem will be deciding which patterns to start with and what fabric to use.This is a lovely book to own, I usually only buy single patterns as I don't always like everything in a book,but this one is all about selecting either a patchwork block or an applique block.

This book essentially consists of two parts:
* Materials, tools and techniques in which is considered fabric, equipment, cutting, piecing, applique, embellishment and finishing; and
* Block directory in which is considered choosing blocks. patchwork blocks, applique blocks and combined technique blocks. In addition the templates are included.
According to my wife - the quilter - Japanese Taupe Quilts is a wonderful extension to Japanese Quilt Blocks by the same author. The instructions are clear and well illustrated, with the principle of "mix and match" being well explained. She particularly liked the projects in which uses for the blocks (e.g. in a bag, wall hanging, pillow or table runner) for purposes other than quilts were develkoped.
