I am disappointed in Luke Crampton's handling of this book. Perhaps my complaint is due in part to the timing. Released 9/28/09, it is one more in a glut of books designed to take advantage the memorabilia buying frenzy after this artists' death. In comparison to other chronicles on Michael Jackson's creative work I find it marginal. It lacks originality.
The author's attempt at making this book a visual and narrative biography and his introduction, laced with enough Media fashioned and willfully ignorant opinions warrants an immediate return & refund. The Awards and Charts History is not as comprehensive as it should be given Luke's credentials as Managing Director of Original Media, "the world's most comprehensive source for popular music history data". The photos are excellent, but I did not buy the book for the photos.
If you are looking for an excellent reference on Jackson's creative works, I recommend "Michael Jackson For The Record". If you are interested in a pictorial chronically reference, I suggest Michael Jackson Vault: A Tribute to the King of Pop 1958-2009, Ebony Special Tribute and/or Life Commemorative: Michael Jackson. I have yet to find an objective biography on Michael Jackson which is not filled with prevarication and personal opinions presented as facts, I have no recommendations.
