烏賀陽 弘道
1963年生まれ。京都大学経済学部卒業後、朝日新聞社に入社。名古屋本社社会部、「AERA」編集部などに勤務。その間、92年から94年にかけて米コロンビア大学に自費留学し、安全保障論で修士号取得。2003年に退社し、フリージャーナリストとなる(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

音楽本のふりをしながら８０，９０年代の社会事象を都会チックな視点でおもしろく描いてくれている。突如現れた謎の筆者にこれからも期待したい。

ありそうでなかったＪポップ論の快作。ユングの「集合的無意識」という、緻密な議論を好む学者には不評だが、しかし妙な説得力のある理論をベースにして、ミリオンを突破できるポップ音楽の深層に潜む日本人の心理をあぶりだしていく。うがった分析でありかつリズムのいい読みやすい文章で、最後まで興奮して読み終えた。すごく楽しい。
たとえば、サザンとユーミンは、盆と正月に回帰する先祖の霊魂をもてなすための、民俗芸能の延長上におかれる。ＧＬＡＹの「20万人コンサート」は、考えてみると、成人式が崩壊した時代に復活した古典的な「通過儀礼」だったとされる。甲本ヒロト・草野マサムネの書く歌詞は、日本風のアニミズム的仏教の系譜につらなるというのだ。Ｂ'zが「パクリ」でも評価されるのは、そもそも日本は「模倣」の文化の国だから……。すごいぞ！
まあ、どうも腑に落ちにくい部分もあった。とくに浜崎あゆみの章は、現代の身体論の問題と日本民俗学の知見が混沌と提示されていて、いまひとつまとまっていない気がした。それでも、解釈のおもしろさは、かわらないのだが。
この「トンデモ本」すれすれの作品に、痛快な説得力を与えているのは、著者が「オウム問題」や「ガングロ・ファッション」などの取材で獲得してきた現代社会へのリアルな認識のためであり、そして何より、独学による「日本文化論」の知識量のおかげである。へたな専門家より理解が深いのでは、とすら思える記述も多々ある。だから、本書は、Jポップをネタにした日本の民俗学・宗教学の入門書としても使えるのだ。なんて読みがいがあるんだろう。

日本人にとっての盆と正月の特異性や、模倣に対する寛容さは、
何となく認識していたが、その理由や背景まで踏み込んだものは初めて見た。
しかも、その日本人論をJ-POPと結びつけたことは斬新である。
また、持論を裏付けるデータの見せ方は、さすがジャーナリストである。
何より、読んでいて面白かった。
続刊にも期待している。
