I used this textbook for an econometrics class. Many of the concepts were explained with too much math/symbols, and not enough intuitive understanding. It would have helped to use move visuals to improve comprehension. Also, there are some typos in some of the formulas and math, so verify the author's work while you read!
Leaves much to be desired... I was lost in the lectures, so this book got me through some of the concepts, but it could have been better. (In comparison, for a previous stat course I used the book 'Statistics' by Freedman, which used excellent visuals and graphs to really drive the points home.)

terrible option

The book is terrible. It is hard to understand. There are not enough exercises and the book doesn't have (as many other economics books do) the solution to most of the problems. I would ask the professors that teach this course the check out other options before suggesting this book to their students. The used version (when I bought this book) was not cheaper enough and forget about renting it, if you bought it at least you could get more money back when you decide to resell it. Compared to other economics books this is the worst to teach such an important topic. Only buy it if you must do it.
Straightforward introduction to econometrics

This book gives a straightforward introduction to different regression techniques without using too many formulas. It can be read easily and does not assume any pre-knowledge of the subject. Solutions to the review and end-of-chapter questions, additional online quizzes, various data sets for replicating the exercises, and Stata or EViews tutorials can be found at the companion website. I can highly recommend this book by Stock and Watson for a first introduction to basic econometrics.
