当時、誰もが絶賛した衝撃のデビューアルバム。
卓越した音楽センスと、デリケートで中性的な黒人独特の声質で
これ以上ないと思われるほど完成度の高い作品となっている。
ポップな音楽とゴスペルの切なさが混在した魅力的なこのアルバムは、
十数年経った今でも古くささを全く感じさせることがない。

しかし皮肉にも、このアルバムの完成度の高さに、
多くの業界人が波のように新人の彼に押し寄せ、
結局その波を乗り切る術を持たない若き天才は
彼自身の生み出したその波に飲み込まれてしまった。

数年間のブランクの後、サナンダ・マイトルーヤと改名し
新たに音楽活動を再開している彼の現在のアルバムも
さすがに技術は高く聞きやすいが、平凡である感は否めない。

彼が、再び当時の天才的な感性をよみがえらせ、
珠玉の一枚を生み出してくれることを、つい夢見てしまうのである。

まず、このアルバム聴いて。いいから。友達にこれ、貸しまくってる。何度聴いても飽きないよ。才能爆発って感じ。彼のアルバムで、これが一番好き。
音で遊んでる感じで余裕のある人ですね。いろんな国の音楽を感じられます。彼のパーソナルな部分が音楽に反映されているんでしょうか？やはり。

他のアルバムでもいい曲たくさんあるけど、アルバム全体でひとつの作品ということを強く感じられ、とてもマニア的でいいです。

当時天才と大いに話題になり、今や誰も覚えていないテレンストレントダービーのデビュー作。このアルバム、やたら「天才のデビュー作！」と煽る紹介文ばかりで、具体的にどんなサウンドなのか解説しているものが殆どないので、一体Ｍジャクソンなのかプリンスなのか、ロックなのかファンクなのか聴くまではよく分からないのだが。実際聞くとブルーアイドソウルだったんですね。イメージしていたサウンドと違ってかなり意外。このジャケと風貌でブルーアイドソウルとは予想も付かないよ。もっとハードファンクな音を期待していたのだが。まあ８０年代後半に流行ったブルーアイドソウルとしてはなかなか音使いが個性的で、今から聴くと「おお天才！」とまでは思えないが、まあデビュー作としてはよく出来ているほうだろう。しかしこの人ほどショービズとの折り合いの付け方の下手糞な人はいないのではないか。音楽性は悪くないのに、中古屋の１００円コーナーで彼のアルバム投売り状態じゃないか。どうしてこうなるんだ。天才が１００円で投売りではマズいだろう。
