A land of fire and ice, Iceland never ceases to astonish. This unique country, active volcanically, with hot springs and floes of lava side by side with glaciers in its deserted, rocky landscapes, is home to some of the most dramatic scenery in the world. The vast Vatnajokull Glacier - the largest in Europe - and the volcanic island of Surtsey, which was created by eruptions of basalt from the sea off Iceland's coast from 1963 to 1967, are only two of the country's breathtaking sights. Photographer Patrick Desgraupes has captured Icelands's drama and mystery as no other photographer before him has.
著者について
Petur Gunnarsson, a native of Iceland with a love of French literature, has translated a number of French classics into his native language. Guillaume Canat is a writer specializing in astronomy and geology. He has written widely in both these fields.

Workmanlike Photography, Boring Book

The photography appears to be done within a short time and by someone intent on putting his particular spin on his subject. Unfortunately, the consequence is that none of the pictures qualify as stunning. They photography is very competent and has wonderful color saturation, but the compositions left me cold. None of them had points of interest or hints of an underlying story that typifies the best photography.
The photographer also decided to concentrate on close-up landscape, thus, there's relatively little coverage on the waterfalls and wildlife that Iceland is known for. Even worse, many images look very similar to each other, and most did not make me want to visit Iceland or re-read this book. I have seen far superior Iceland photography posted for free viewing on Flickr.

Beautiful photographs that show both the splendor of Iceland's wild places and the mute artistry of the camera. Not much in the way of useful text but very pretty pictures.

The pictures in this book are gorgeous pieces of art. If you are looking for a book that offers a peek into the full range of Icelandic nature then this is not the book. The cover shot is a good representation of what the rest of the photos are like.
