This is a very fast paced novel in the Bourne, Bond, etc. mode but with one huge difference...the characters are all sociopaths. Every one of them treats killing....murder...as nothing more than a business practice. Whenever a few glimmers of humanity do emerge they are quickly and brutally snuffed out. There is no redemption here for anyone, just close-ups of killers at work who enjoy their work and seem to have no other life to speak of and who, in the end, are still nothing more than sociopathic killers.
While all the action scenes are engrossing by the end of the story it is just depressing to realize that all the remaining characters are still as one dimensional, murderous and, frankly, unlikable as they were at the start. Granted there is one tiny concession at the end intended to show some sort of character growth but it is far too little and far too late to salvage any sort of decent plot resolution. Wood has the touch with the action scenes but he is totally tone deaf in the areas of character and plot developments.
