内容紹介

This presentation of Hundertwasser's work in all of its different facets is guided by the artist's own view of himself and his purpose. Excerpts from conversations between the author and the artist lend a sense of immediacy and authenticity to the narration.

I salute your Spirit! 2000/6/21
投稿者 Critic - (Amazon.com)

Hundertwasser died early this year in a little town in the North of New Zealand. Eventhough I had never met the man, I felt saddened, as I had come of know of him, and his work from this book, which is a biography of sorts.
While for me, the great attraction was the beautiful quality of the reproductions which replicated the pure pure colours, the text is mostly in an interview format, and one gets to hear Hundertwasser's 'voice' - and from that his spirit. I found myself wondering at times, if it was solely his work, or his passion which made the legend of Hundertwasser. The artist has strong opinions about everything, from garden gnomes to his hatred for conventional and boring buildings. I found his concepts of 'tree tenents' (trees should live with us in apartments) and houses that should be indistinguishable from above (by growing grass roofs) fascinating. However, at the end of the day, it is his bold use of colour - vivid, vibrant, confrontational colour coupled with his enigmatic yet child-like imagery, which glows in my memory.

Magic 1999/11/24

I was in an extremely bad mood, walking around with a scowl and wishing there was more to the mundaeity that was around me. And that was when I found this book. I had never come across Hundertwasser before. This book is a magical journey throughout the artists life with beautiful reproductions of his amazingly inspirational works. The strength in the book is in its layout, sequencing and the question and answer format between the author of the book and Hundertwasser himself. This book, without sounding cliqued, has changed me and I will continue to hunt for any Hundertwasser I can find. Pure Magic.

found wanting 2004/3/24

This is a nice portfolio of prints of his artwork. It only covers twelve of his paintings, and one print of the poster he did of the Hundertwasser-Haus in Vienna. Although there are very few pages, they are quite large, and have beautiful colors. This is definately coffee-table sized. This portfolio contains very little. Would have liked to see more of his architecture.

No straight lines to be found here 2013/5/16
投稿者 Martin P - (Amazon.com)

I bought this book as I was intrigued by Hundertwasser's curious artistic ideals and the use of color in his paintings and architecture. His work seems to have an unplanned quality to it, which adds to its excitement and appeal. Having read that his buildings sometimes have uneven floors it became apparent that Hundertwasser was less concerned with practicality or ornament, but rather wished to free his viewers from the more mundane and regulated aspects of life (apparent he abhorred straight lines and called them the 'devil's tools').

Despite knowing relatively little about the artist, I was impressed by the way the book covers a good range of his works from across his artistic career. I found the color reproductions to be vivid and being a decent sized book, the images are large enough for close inspection and sit well on the page.

Buying this book on a whim I'm glad I took the plunge, and neighbors and friends have all been drawn to this strange but alluring artist as well.

Look for the 400-page Taschen Edition for a Real Treat! 2013/6/3
投稿者 D Smyth - (Amazon.com)
形式: ハードカバー Amazonで購入
There are a number of Hundertwasser books out published by Taschen, but the bargain of the century is the 400-page edition "Hundertwasser (Hundertwasser - 1928-2000)" by Wieland Schmied. One of Taschen's 25th anniversary printings, this is a poor-man's copy of Volume I of Taschen's two-volume limited edition (of which only 10,000 copies were produced). Hundertwasser worked closely with Taschen on this (designing the layout himself), and the text for Volume I is by Schmied, an art historian and longtime personal friend of Hundertwasser. The book is midi size (about 8" x 10", and there are about 200 color reproductions of selected paintings, architectural works, photos of the artist, and more.(Too bad there's no discounted Volume II, which is a Catalogue Raisonné of Hundertwasser's entire painted oeuvre.)
Unfortunately, it looks like this "25" edition has recently gone out of print. I hope I'm wrong, but Taschan doesn't list it on its website anymore, only the 200-page book by Harry Rand (which I also own, and which is also very nice.) So if you like Hundertwasser, this is a book to look for now, while copies are still available.
