John Beaulieu, N.D., Ph.D., R.P.P. has written a remarkably readable book describing how and why tuning fork use naturally spikes your nitric oxide cycle, resulting in systemic relaxation and healing throughout the body. John's masterful use of everyday prose to clearly excavate and elucidate complicated processes makes this work a fun read and accessible to the average reader interested in improving their lives.
For example, using his years of experience as a clinician, John has been able to eloquently and brilliantly tie together theoretical concepts from systems theory, music, and hypnosis, concluding that the still point in music, the trance state in hypnosis, and the chaotic attractor in systems theory are all one and the same. This is a remarkable observation!
On page 21 he states: "An attractor is a region within an oscillating field that pulls everything towards it. It is an attractor that allows us to shift from one energy field to another. In the healing arts, attractors are called still points. The key to shifting from one mental/physical pattern to another is still point. Dr. Milton Erickson, M.D.,....called the state of trance "neutral" which is another term for still point. He believed that for a person to change, they must first go into a trance. The practitioner could then guide them into a new life pattern using suggestions. Once a system enters still point, a change in pattern involves reorganizing around a new tone. In hypnosis, the practitioner offers the new pattern through verbal suggestions. In tuning fork work, the new pattern is introduced through the audible tone of the tuning forks. In hypnosis, the practitioner uses different verbal methods to induce a still point. In tuning fork work, the tuning forks are tuned to naturally induce a still point".
In this work, John successfully builds upon concepts introduced from two earlier books - Polarity Therapy Workbook, 1994; Music & Sound in the Healing Arts, 1987 - touching on a wide range of issues such as evolving consciousness, the role of silence in our lives, the meaning and significance of rhythm, resonance and dissonance in music, as well as how sound relates to the Five (5) Elements. The book is also expertly illustrated by John's son, professional photographer Lars Beaulieu.
Anyone interested in the healing arts would find this work to be a valuable addition to their collection. John's down to earth style and focus upon easy to learn techniques for working with auditory and kinesthetic tuning forks will thrill anyone who is seeking easy ways to relax, alleviate bodily aches & pains or reduce their habitual stress quotients. There is also a helpful Appendix for those who are interested in the science behind these concepts laying out neuroendocrine and immune system correlates as they relate to sound and cyclic constitutive nitric oxide spiking which lead to reductions in allostatic loads and homeostasis.
It is with enthusiasm and joy that I give John's book the highest possible recommendation for its readability, in the service of the upliftment of Spirit and evolving consciousness of humankind. John's positively enlightening insights and soothing tone should provide welcome relief to anyone who has suffered pain, stress, anxiety or is just seeking new ways to relax or enter flow states. You'll thank yourself many times over once you've read what John has to say about healing "the tuning fork way!"
