From the pages of the British magazine "House & Garden" comes CLASSIC ROOMS, first published in 1989 and reprinted in 1992. Most of the rooms are in England and done by British decorators, but there are also some examples in France and the United States. All are generally traditional but often there are additions of modern furniture and art. The photo on the cover of the dustjacket, the octagonal morning room at Sudeley Castle decorated by Colefax & Fowler, is indicative of the direction of the book. Other designers include Tom Parr, Andre de Cacqueray, Bernard and Laura Ashley, Kenneth Turner, Brian Juhos, and Henri Samuel. Most of the decorative schemes date from the 1980s, but a large percentage do qualify as Classic and stand the test of time. The text is essentially just a basic caption, but the photos, all in color, are good. Traditionalists will enjoy the book, but others might want more diversity.
