７５年発表、バークレイ・ジェイムス・ハーヴェストの通算９作目。
夕日に赤く染まった丘の上に一人佇む農夫と、
その横をさりげなく舞う蝶のシルエットが印象的な本作。
ジャケット裏には一転して爽やかな青い空が広がり、
バンドのシンボル・マークでもある蝶はハッキリとその姿を表わして宙を舞います。

紙ジャケはＥ式シングルジャケット。
付属の紙にこの絵の全貌が載っており、
それを見るとジャケットの表と裏で一枚の絵になっていることがわかります。
そのため、はじめ見たとき“見開きジャケにすべきでは？”と思いましたが、
見れば見るほど、この絵の対比を表わすにはシングルジャケが相応しいのだと気付きました。

内容としては、ポップなプログレッシブ・ロック。
美しい響きを持つコーラスと
幻想的で、どこか切ないサウンド。
ジャケットや邦題にもマッチした厭世的とも思える歌詞。
個々の楽曲はプログレと聞いて連想するような大曲は無く、
どれも４〜５分ほどで、曲の構成もわかりやすく親しみやすいものです。

ビートルズの曲のタイトルを繋ぎ合わせた歌詞が面白い「タイトルズ」や
キング・クリムゾンの「ムーンチャイルド」を意識したような「ムーンガール」などが主な見所ですが、
個人的にはレイドバックな「ジョナサン」や「スウィート・ジーザス」で聴けるアコースティック・ギターや、
一発で聴く者を惹きつける「イン・マイ・ライフ」のメロディアスなギター・フレーズなども本作の重要な部分の一つだと思います。

帯にも記載がありますが、音源は2003年リマスター。
また、ボーナス・トラックとして前作『宇宙の子供』のタイトル曲の別バージョンが収録されています。

ただ、今となってはかなりマニアックなバンドなため
“はたしてこのレビューを読んでくれる人はいるのだろうか？”
と、書いていて少し不安になりますが（笑）、
もし興味を持った方は聴いてみて損は無い作品ですよ。

75年作。前作以上にポップな方向へ洗練され、ポリドール移籍後のこのバンドのスタイルが完全に固まった良盤。物柔らかで牧歌的、フォーク的、キーボード類によるシンフォニックなアレンジも無駄な大仰さがなく、品があって素晴らしい。そして何より、いつも通りに優しく甘美なメロディーが素晴らしく、心地良い。高品質のブリティッシュロック。いかにも「ああ…ブリティッシュだなあ」と感じるサウンドなのだが、それでいて妙にアメリカンな部分もある。
「IN MY LIFE」はイントロの華やかなギターがとても印象的。軽快に走りつつも、途中からスピードを落とし神聖なムードが高まる展開が良い。「SWEET JESUS」は上品で切ないバラード。ギターソロ、味があって良い。「TITLES」はビートルズの楽曲のタイトルを使った歌詞が面白い。「JONATHAN」は「かもめのジョナサン」にインスパイアされた曲。壮大さを増していく後半、特にゆっくり重たく入ってくるギターが好き。「BEYOND THE GRAVE」は幻想的で崇高、シンフォニックで大きな広がりを感じさせる曲だが、突然ブチッと途切れて終わる。「SONG FOR YOU」は前半はギターとオルガンが力強く飛び跳ねる展開だが、後半はピアノやボーカルが非常にセンチメンタルなこのバンドらしい展開。「HYMN FOR THE CHILDREN」は前作の１曲目「CHILD OF THE UNIVERSE」の続編にあたるメッセージソングらしい。「MOONGIRL」はクラシカルで切ない。まどろみ、夢を見るような感覚。ひたれる、泣ける。個人的にはすごく気に入ってます。「One Night」はどことなく、けだるげなムード。
