Hole-in-One! The Complete Book of Fact, Legend and Lore of Golf's Luckiest Shot is the first and only book exclusively dedicated to golf's uncommonly common miracle. This nimble reference book is fact-packed with more than 1,000 lucky stories and features of the exhilarating event every single golfer dreams of achieving before they're lowered into the hole from which there is no mulligan. Author Chris Rodell spoke to dozens of top Tour professionals who share their stories of their most amazing aces like the time in 1986 when legendary Arnold Palmer aced the 182-yard third hole at TPC of Avernel, just 24 hours after acing the very same hole with the very same club. Lee Trevino tells about the luck, good and bad, involved in being one of the professional golfers to have ever aced and been struck by lightning (The ace felt much, much better, Trevino jokes), and about the day he earned $175,000 for a Skins game ace. It was the exact same day a Florida woman named Lee Trevino got soaked for an expensive round of drinks for getting her ace. Both Trevinos would ace again. One of them earned $1,010,000. the other didn't even bother to tell anyone. Care to guess which one? Dozens of famous golfers including Vice President Dan Quayle, John Elway and Carlton Fisk share their funniest stories of what acing means to them. The ace histories of celebrity golfers such as Clint Eastwood, Sylvester Stallone, Will Smith and Jack Nicholson are detailed. One week after casting a historic vote that made George W. Bush president, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O1Connor got an ace. Her judicious reaction is here, too. Hole-in-One! examines the mystery and magic involved in the inexplicable ace. For instance, why does Scott Hoch, the PGA Tour ace leader have 26, when fellow pro Fred Couple has just one? The funny and heart-warming stories of hundreds of ordinary golfers who've been kissed by Lady Luck are portrayed. There are right-handed men swinging left-handed clubs who've gotten one. So have blind men and women, first-time golfers, 3-year-old toddlers and 101-year-old widows. Hacker Richard Nixon is one of three presidents to have ever gotten one and he said it was a greater thrill than winning an election. Doctors, ministers, drunks, cowboys and clowns have all gotten one. Have you? More than a golf book, the stories of the most amazing aces ever will touch and tickle readers who long for luck of their own. In the hopes that some of it will rub off on readers, Hole-in-One! is sprinkled with good luck charms and symbols and comes with an official USGA form so readers can register their own aces with golf's governing body. If good fortune is truly infectious, readers will want to carry a copy of Hole-in-One! The Complete Book of Fact, Legend and Lore around when they're buying lottery tickets. It's the luckiest book ever written.
About the Author
Chris Rodell is among the most widely read freelance writers in the world and the only one who's had simultaneous articles appear in People, Maxim, Golf, National Enquirer and The South China Morning Post. He may not be the best golf writer, the most productive golf writer or the best-informed golf writer, but he's the only one who lives on Arnold Palmer Drive, one half mile from Latrobe Country Club and The King himself. He doesn't know Palmer, but their dogs were once good friends.
