This certainly can't be a book about Cambodia authored by everyone's favorite cheerleader for genocide, Cambodian-style, Laura Summers? Not the same Dr. Summers who spent her formative years cranking out agitprop for Pol Pot, Ieng Sary, and the gang at the Tuol Sleng slaughterhouse? The same Summers who denied profusely the existence of killing fields, firing squads, concentration camps, or mass starvation?
Sad but true, it all happened, and more. Imagine publishing a work with littered with citations and footnotes from bureaucrats of a totalitarian regime, while simultaneously denying mass refugee accounts as "unreliable". Who says brilliant scholarship is dead?

The previous reviewer is overreacting to the fact that this book is co-authored by Laura Summers, of whom he provides an accurate profile, as far as it goes. But he neglects to note that the other author is Justin Corfield, a respected scholar of Cambodia who wrote the best history of the Lon Nol peroid avaiable. Although the Historical Dictionary of Cambodia contains some innaccuracies, which is not surprising in a book which covers so much territory, it is a valuable reference on the personalities who have shaped Cambodian history in the 20th century. I have shown it to a number of Cambodian friends, many of whom were impressed by the wealth of information, sometimes on themselves, which the volume contains. It is definitely worth consulting by anyone interested in Cambodia and the people who have governed it in recent times.
Lots of Biographical Info on Important People!

I was looking for more history than biographical information on individuals but there is enough new data in it to make it a worthwhile purchase. After reading it, I was wondering how much better a life Cambodians would likely have had without interference from other countries and the educating of many Cambodians in those other countries into believing Communism is the answer to solve all of their problems.
