ハイウェイ61とはブルース生誕の地ミシシッピ州クラークスデールとブルースを広めた地、あるいはロックン・ロール生誕の地として知られるテネシー州メンフィスを結ぶ道です。
都会的、インテリ的なイメージから田舎っぽい肉体的なイメージへと変身を遂げて、弾き語りという形式の殻を破った勢いそのままにスピード感あふれる軽快な曲が並びます。
Like a rolling stoneは全てのロック・ファン必聴ですね。

もともと僕の聞くジャンルでなかったボブ・ディランが僕にとっては聞きやすい音を作ってくれたと飛びついたのがこのアルバム。初めから「ゾクゾク」しますわ。そのころあんまり一緒にやっているミュージシャンを気にしなかったんですが、マイケル・ブルームフィールドとアル・クーパーがここで一緒にやっているのがその後の２人の活動の原点かと思うと別の意味で感激。当時の僕の周りではこのボブ・ディランの変化に異議を唱えたものはいなかったんですけど・・・。全てウエルカムで「こいつはスゴイ」という評価一色だったんですけどね。

私は彼の最高傑作は自作の「Blonde On Blonde」だと思っているのだが、この
作品もそれと紙一重の傑作。
イントロ聞こえるだけでゾクゾクする1を筆頭に全曲Dylanのマスターピース。
当時はDylanがバックバンドつけてロック演奏した初めての作品とかで
いろいろ雑音があったようだが、今聴けば単純に素晴らしいロックアルバム。
これも星五つどころか十個でも差し上げたい大名作。
