特定のフレームワークに依存するわけではなく、JavaScript、DOM、PHPでシンプルに解説してある。
もちろんこの本だけで十分ということはないが、サンプルコードを自分でいじってみればそれなりにイメージを持つことができるはず。
細かいところよりも、ブラウザの挙動も含めた入門イメージ作りができれば十分という方におすすめ。
DOMの解説本も最近出版されたので、そちらもおもしろそう。
サーバサイドは基本的に触れていないが、本業Java使いでも支障なく読む＆使ってみるのに支障はありませんでした。

技術書らしくないデザインで、飽きることなく読むことができました。こんな本に出会ったのは初めてです。よい意味で衝撃的でした。
HTML・CSS・JavaScriptの基本的な素養があれば、本のタイトルにあるとおり、まさに学びながら読むことができます。

オライリーの出す本は、堅苦しくてちょっと…
という方もこの本なら大丈夫です。
寧ろ、もっと肩が凝る内容が欲しいなと思うくらい、
ラフな会話調で、出来るだけ分かり易く学び易くなるように工夫されています。

この本を読むには、多少のHTML、CSS、JavaScriptの知識が要りますが、
それさえクリアすれば、「Ajaxとは何？」という人でも、
Ajaxを使った簡単なWebページくらい作れるようになると思います。
(実際に自分は、なんとか作れました。)

10日程度で読み切れるほど、絵をふんだんに使って説明をしてくれるのは有り難いですが、
少々値段がはることが難点ですかね。
それでも、入門書としては非常にいい本だと思います。
