1949に1eが出版されて以来, 62年間で17回の改定を経た18e.
先人の知識の累積を手に入れることができると考えると, 安い買い物です.
(数年後に出る日本語訳は恐らく3万前後すると思います)
内科学の教科書としては唯一, 人から薦められます.
世界中で使用されていて, 特に母国語の医学書がないような国では原書で用いられているからか、英語は読みやすいです.
全体としては膨大ですが、各項目の量は適切で, 1 Chにつき大体20, 30分程度で読めます.
項目が多すぎるせいか目次は結構雑なので, 体系的に学ぶというよりは辞書的な使用法が主になりますが, 的を絞れば通読も無理ではないと思います.
各科の専門書には敵わないところは当然あるので, 教科書という域は脱しません.
対象読者も, 内科医が専門外のことで調べたり, あとはGPやスーパーローテ/ポリクリ中の研修医/学生でしょうか.
持ち歩きには向きません: 大きく重いうえ, 分冊間での参照とかあるので2冊一緒に用意しておきたいです.
各部の色分けなんかは17eのほうがきれいだったと思いますが, これは見た目の問題ですし人それぞれですね.
Rx部全体に黄色い網掛けが入っているなど、アクセスのし易さは向上しています.
DVDは何個か見ましたが, 実技はNEJMのビデオ講座のイメージです.
内科疾患で外科的治療もある場合, もう少し触れていてほしいと感じたことはあります.
本棚で眠らせないようなるべく頻繁に参照するようにしています.

18th editionにはiPad版があり、私はそちらを購入しました。
highlightやannotationも付けられるし、検索が圧倒的に便利。iPad 3rdの精彩液晶で読めます。
またiOS5の長押し辞書機能が使えるので、読むスピードがかなり上がります。

This is a great resource if you are starting out in Internal Medicine. I have not had a chance to use the DVD yet, but I access the Access Medicine website all the time through my school's account and find Harrison's to be a useful resource.

Well this for me will be a baby:) this bookmis just what a medical student instructor or practitioner should have. The pictures tables , charts illustrations and the accuracy of information from known cases surpasses any other book ever written!
