Queen brought a whole new meaning to the phrase over the top. While rock & roll flamboyance stretched back at least as far as Little Richard, Freddie Mercury continued to camp it up, taking little seriously and smirking at the music's growing pretensions while partaking in them no small bit. Many of the band's singles hold up extremely well, such as "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Killer Queen" and "You're My Best Friend". イギリスでは一家に一枚の割合で普及しているというデジタルテレビもびっくりの売り上げを誇るアルバム。当然全世界的にQUEENのベスト盤といえばこれかVol.2ということ。他にベスト盤ってあったっけか？
内容については言うまでもなく全ての曲がクラシックといっていい完璧な曲であり永遠に色褪せない魅力を放っている。このアルバムをきっかけにQUEENのファンになった、あるいはこれかななる人は無数に存在することだろう。
とはいってもこれはQUEENの才能のごく一部を切り取ったに過ぎないところがこのアーティストのグレイトな所であろう。

ロックンロール界のKING、「QUEEN」。
フレディーマーキュリー亡き今でも、彼らの作り出した曲全ては、永遠に古く感じることのなく音楽の歴史の中に行き続けるだろう。
フレディーマーキュリーのカリスマ性、独創的ファッション、作曲の素晴らしさ、演奏能力の高さ、全てにおいて完璧。
ライブに関しても聴ける、見せるショーである。

●お勧め●
このアルバムは彼らの初のBESTアルバムで全世界でGreatest Hitsを記録したベストセラーでもある。殆どの曲が全英トップ20に入っている。
これを含めてGreatest Hitsは３枚あるので全てを抑えていればQueenを知る近道になる。

彼らの歌さえ歌えれば、言葉が通じなくても世界どこに行っても誰とでも友達になれてしまうと思う。

私自身はベスト版をあまり好んで聞かない。なぜなら、やはりアーティストの音楽性は、アルバムの中に一番表現されていると思うからである。クイーンについてもしかり。彼らのエッセンスは、そのアルバム群の中にあらわされている。ではこのアルバムはどうか。アルバムの出来としては、あまたあるベスト版の中では聞き応えがある部類に属するであろう。ロックシーンの一角を担うクイーンのベストとしては及第点を与えられるだろう。ひとつの聞き物としてはどうか。彼らの個性が詰まった楽しい作品だと言えよう。
