Finding chapter books for young readers ( 4-6 years ) that they are able to read themselves with ease are very hard to find. I am an owner, director, and master elementary teacher of a small private school. I spend many hours looking for books that do not use put-downs, rude retorts, words like "stupid/idiot/baby", cliques and competition in a negative way, as part of the story line. Books of this type are very hard to find, and ones that will hold a child's interest are even harder to find. The "Nate the Great" series meets my qualifications, enough so that I am buying the series for my young grandson for Christmas.
