If you are doing pedigree research or trying to acquaint yourself with who the successful breeders/kennels are in Gordon Setters, I recommend this book as one of your sources. The comb-bound book is a list of male and female dogs who have produced at least one U.S.A. champion during the years reviewed. Conformation and field/hunting championships qualify the dogs for inclusion on the list, and obedience, hunting, rally, and agility titles are included. The list is sorted by sire and by dam rather than by champion produced, which is most useful in the development of vertical pedigrees. Registration numbers are provided on the champions, but, sadly, not the parents. Dates of birth are not given. The pages are landscape oriented with data presented in two columns per page; it is pragmatically organized and easy to follow. The typeface is a monospace serif style, such as Courier New; formatting has been kept as simple as possible. The book would benefit from greater ink density. There are a few clearly legible handwritten additions. It is hard to tell what is misspelled and what was spelled in a unique manner by the registrant, but there are very, very few inconsistencies between these data and those on other published lists. I hope the author will issue an updated revision using more modern publishing tools and that there soon will be a similar book published for 2003-2008 champions.
