God Is Closer Than You Think: Discovering the Nearness of God From the Book of Leviticus

I was both captivated and intrigued by the concept that the author took the reader on a journey of intimacy with God beginning with one of the more challenging books of the Old Testament, the book of Leviticus. A lot people's resolve to read through the entire Bible in a year have been abandoned in the Book of Leviticus as the reader encounters a culture of antiquity that is hard to understand with a portrayal of a faraway God. Yet at this very point of uncertainty the author begins his adventure of helping the reader understand that the God of Leviticus who seems faraway is in fact much closer than we think when we add Jesus to the equation.
As Hebrews 10:1-2 NKJV says: "For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect." The faraway God of the Book of Leviticus becomes more intimate as the shadows of the Old Testament find clarity in the person of Jesus Christ, who is the very image of the things to come.

I didn't think I would ever understand Leviticus! It was always such a hard book for me. My mother suggested I read this - she said I would be surprised...and I was! Thank you Mike Darretta for taking the time to unpack this book for us all in a way that helps us understand Hebrew culture and their belief in the one true God!
It also made me understand that God isn't as harsh as he seems at first glance in Leviticus, but that there are solid reasons for everything!
