今回のリマスターで最もその効果に興味があったのがこのアルバムだ。ジャマイカ録音のこのアルバムはえらく音が曇っており、モコモコのダンゴ状態であったからだ。しかし、この混濁した音はマイルスの「オン・ザ・コーナー」やソフト・マシーンの「サード」同様に「狙った」ものであり、リマスターで「スッキリさわやか」にされても困るし、そうなるわけはない。

ヴードゥー教を思わせるどっしりしたリズムのオープニング「ダンシング・ウィズ・ミスターD」。濁った音は変わりないが、一聴してすぐ音の分離が良くなったのがわかる。ベースの音も聴き易くなった。怪しくも魅惑的なオープニングだ。

ビリー・プレストンのニューソウル的なエレピで始まる「１００年前」。組曲風に展開するストーンズには珍しい曲。エンディングのミック・テイラーのソロが冴えまくる。

キースが歌うドラッグ・ソング「夢からさめて」。かつてビートルズはドラッグ体験を華々しく優雅に曲に反映させたが、ストーンズはもう奈落の底に落ちそうだ。ジャンキーの戯言のようで人懐っこい不思議な曲。

「ドゥ・ドゥ・ドゥ」は名曲。構成の見事さ、ホーンの効果的な使い方など、実に考え込まれたアレンジだ。

キースの跳ねるベースがカッコイイ名曲「シルバー・トレイン」はリマスターによりグルーブ感が増して聞こえる。

最初は変な曲と思ったがよく聴けば良質なソウル・バラードの「すべてが音楽」はイントロのベル音がリマスターにより実に生々しい。

フィナーレはもろチャック・ベリーの「スター・スター」。やはりこういう曲がないとストーンズのアルバムは締らない。

全体的に音の混沌とした感じは変わりないが、分離が良くなった分かなり聴き易くなったと思われる。だがこのアルバムの狙いはあくまでタイトル通り「山羊の頭のスープ」であり、混沌としながら濃密な味である。

私も最初の4枚は角丸ケースでした。UK盤が角丸ケースみたいですよ。でも注文した際US盤だった様な‥
2回目のブラック以降はUS盤がちゃんと送られてきて統一感がなくなりました。
音は皆さんがレビューしているように、ヤギとオンリーが抜群に変わりましたね。特にヤギは90年のリマスターでも好きになれず聞く機会がありませんでしたが、今回のリマスターで頻繁に聞いており、再発見もあります。
でもなんでジャマイカでこんな不気味なアルバムを作ったのでしょうーか？全くカラッとしてません。
ならず者が特別な仕様で最後を飾るそーですが、皆さんは何を期待してます？
デモやアウトテイクも聞きたいけど、発売予定だった72年のライブを高音質で聞きたいですよねー。
もしくはレディース＆ジェントルマンのDVD付属なんかも‥

商品の体裁について。

今回の再発を機にストーンズ熱を上げてみようと思い、第一期2009リマスター４作品[黒＆青／Ｇパン／山羊／イッツオンリーR&R]を数回に分けて入手致しました。

パッケージは最近輸入盤に増えてきた角丸型(メタリカのアルバムもこれでしたね)、割れたら困る例のアレ。
ブックレット出しづらいです。写真メインでライナーらしい英文はほぼ無し。簡素です。

で、その流れで頑張って集めてみようとこないだ発売された第二期作品のうち[刺青]を購入したところ、ケースが普通の■型。あれれ、統一感まるで無し。国内盤が出る際は恐らく体裁を合わせてくるだろうとは思いますが(日本人は拘りますからねえ)、現時点ではなんとも言えません。
とりあえず輸入盤を検討されている方はその点を考慮していただいて。私自身はあまりそういう点は気にしないので引き続き収集していきたいと考えています。プレス毎にケースが変わったりなんかしませんよね・・・？


アルバムの内容についてはお詳しい諸先輩方のレビューを参考にしていただいて。凄く良いアルバムでした。当方、目下精進中です。


///後日談

先日、店頭にて見かけた『刺青(輸入盤)』は角丸でした。生産国によるって事か。
通販の場合どこで見分けたらいいんだろう？
