   ダーク・ホース時代で1枚だけ選べと言われたら、僕は迷わず本作を差し出すだろう。ビートルズ解散後に発表した『オール・シングス・マスト・パス』は確かにジョージの最高傑作だが、フィル・スペクターがもたらしたサウンドの貢献度も大きかった。それに比べ、本作はアーティスト＝ジョージ・ハリスンの“素”の魅力にあふれていて、それだけに余計愛着がわく。

   ポップな佳曲「愛はすべての人に」、ビートルズ時代に作った曲という「ノット・ギルティ」、タイトルからしてかつての名曲を彷彿とさせる「ヒア・カムズ・ザ・ムーン」、トロピカルな味付けを施した美しいナンバー「ダーク・スウィート・レディ」など、ついつい何度も聴き返したくなる粒ぞろいの楽曲が並んでいる。（木村ユタカ）

まさかこのまま永久に廃盤？　かと思われていたダークホース時代のジョージのアルバムが、この度待望の復刻を見た。まずはホッと一安心ですね。「George Harrison/慈愛の輝き」はその中でもダントツの傑作、超おススメな一枚。ジョージと言えば、一般的に評価が高いのは（商業的にも）「All Things Must Pass」と「Cloud Nine」の二枚でしょう。でも、「ジョージ大好き！」を自認する人ならおそらく10人中7、8人はこのアルバムをイチ押しするのではないでしょううか。とにかくジョージという人間の優しさがストレートに伝わるし、フィル・スペクターでもジェフ・リンでもない、いかにもジョージ、なアレンジがたまりません。復刻を機に、多くの人から再評価されることを期待します。

若干抹香くさい70年代前半のアルバムしか発売されていないことが、ずっと残念でした。それにしても、なんと美しく爽やかで優しいアルバムなのでしょうか。愛に恵まれると人間はここまで変われるものなのかと、聞いていて目頭が熱くなる名盤です。原題は「George Harrison」ですが、つけられた邦題が「慈愛の輝き」。これほど内容にふさわしい邦題は珍しいです。知る人ぞ知る名プロデューサー、ラス・タイトルマンのプロフェッショナルな音作りと、曲調にピッタリあった素晴らしいサポートをしたスティーヴ・ウィンウッドの名演も光っています。一気にワーナー時代の作品が再発されましたが、とりあえず一枚買おうかと思っている方に、絶対お奨めなのが本作です。

このアルバム以前のジョージの作品は「オレはジョージ・ハリソンだ！」と強く主張している気がする。これは暗に「ビートルズの元メンバーのジョージ・ハリソンではなく、ジョージ・ハリソン個人を見てくれ」と言っているのに等しく、結局それははビートルズという怪物の影を凄く意識して（せざるを得ないほどの怪物だが）いる亊になるという或る種の自己矛盾。　多くのミュージシャンがそうであるように、この自己矛盾による葛藤が質の高い芸術作品を生み出したのも事実であるが、、、。
　このアルバムで初めてジョージは「そうさ、おれはビートルズの元メンバーさ」と良い意味で開き直れているように思う。「元ビートルズ」というのも含めて自分なのだ、と自分の全てを肯定できている。　今まで喰われそうで怯えていた影を逆に呑み込み、消化しジョージ・ハリソンになる亊に成功した。
　このアルバムのキーワードは「受容」である。　自分というものを全面的に受容できたジョージだからこそ、このなんとも温かく、ホッとする、何物かに包み込まれている広くて深い安心感が、このアルバムの隅々まで行き渡っているのだ。　他の皆さんも書いているように捨て曲の無いという意味でも名アルバムであるが、それ以上に、このアルバムを支配する上記の空気感が、これをジョージの最高傑作にしているのだと私は思います。
　個人的には、他のアルバムは改めてCDで買い直そうとは思わない（レコードは持っている）が、このアルバムはCDでも買いました。
