主人公リディアの手紙で綴られた絵本です。戦争中、リディアはしばらく家族のもとを離れ、おじさんのところで生活することになりました。おじさんはニコリともしてくれませんが、前向きなリディアは彼女なりのやり方で無機質だった彼のまわりの風景に少しづつ彩りを与えていきます。描かれているふるさとの庭の風景や、リディアのまごころの象徴のような花たち、そしておじさんの表情がすごくいい。すばらしい絵本ですので、ぜひ、これからも多くの家庭で読みつがれてほしいです。
