Kool & The Gangに続いて（良い意味で）期待を裏切られた一枚になった．何の予備知識を持たずに購入したので、パッケージを手にとってびっくりした．故Arif Mardinへのデディケーションは予想がついたが、その意図を汲むプロデュースは何とFlyte Tyme．このありそうで今までなかった組み合わせ．その成果はさすがに業師である、誠に素晴らしい作品となった．

サプライズはさらに続く．Mary J. Blige やMichael McDonaldの参加、Prince やJoni Mitchellの曲を取り上げていることなどはまぁ想定内として、Tony MaidenをフューチャーしてRufus時代の曲を2曲セルフカバーしているのだ．これが原曲の雰囲気を忠実に再現、しかも現代的に、というオリジナルへの敬意を感じさせるような内容となっている．キーポイントは2曲ともTony Maidenのギターで始まること．そうなのだ、全体的にRufus & Chakaのムードを感じさせるというのが、本作の狙いどころなのである．

したがって、いわゆるFlyte Tymeサウンドを期待すると外れる．前作が、こう言っては何だが、どうでもいいスタンダード・アルバムだった．このままでは終わらせない、という明確な意図の伝わる、これはFlyte Tymeによって周到に準備された復活作品なのである．そうした周囲の期待に見事に応えたChaka．これこそがまさに底力である．感服．

３年ぶりのｵﾘｼﾞﾅﾙｱﾙﾊﾞﾑは、彼女の原点であるR&B,Funk,Soulに回帰したようだ。『ていっても、どうせ一昔前のｼﾝｶﾞｰでしょ?』って声が聞こえてきそうだが、そんな戯言は言わせんと言わんばかりの内容に仕上がってます。

ｶｯﾃｨﾝｸﾞｴｯｼﾞに溢れるｺｰﾗｽﾜｰｸ、ｻｳﾝﾄﾞﾌﾟﾛﾀﾞｸｼｮﾝ、そしてﾊﾞﾝﾄﾞのｵｰｶﾞﾆｯｸなｻｳﾝﾄﾞも、すべてがたまりません。そこに、彼女のﾊｲﾄｰﾝｳﾞｫｰｶﾙが絶妙に絡み合う。そん時の迫力、ﾌｧﾝｸっぷり、ｿｳﾙこぼれっぷりったら。

そんな素晴らしい作品を作り上げるのに一役買ったのが、Jam&Lewis。ほんと彼ら外しませんって。選曲もJimi HendrixからPrince,Joni Mitchellのｶﾊﾞｰまで、またｹﾞｽﾄにはMary JにMichael McDonald。ほんと穴ありませんって。

ﾃﾞﾋﾞｭｰから長い歳月が過ぎようとも、いつまでも変わらぬ声を轟かせている彼女は賞賛に値します。ｹｰｽがｴｺﾊﾟｯｸってとこも好印象◎

ヘヴィな仕上がりになりました。近時打ち込み系にいったりジャズ回帰もありましたが、重く仕上がっています。選曲、ゲスト、プロデュースの妙も確かにあるんでしょうか、いったい何歳なのかというハリのある素晴らしい歌声です！圧倒されます。80年前後に戻ったみたい。バケモノかと思うぐらいの勢いです！
タイトルも相当自信がある表れとも思います。深いです。年季が入った音、ソウルの王道、というとかなり臭い表現になってしまいますが、そうしたウタものに浸りたい、触れたい方は一聴して損はありません！
