心地よいソウルフルな曲ばかりですばらしいです！
これぞフリーソウルでしょう。

特に、
エドナライトの「OOPS!HERE I GO AGAIN 」、
オリジナル・サヴァンナ・バンドの「SUNSHOWER」
は、最高にグルービィでメロウです。

フリーソウルシリーズはまずこの一枚から聴いてみてください。

意外と1枚1枚に色があると思っているこの「Free Soul 」シリーズ。
「Impressions」は全体的にメロウかつファンキーと言った感じです。
特に7〜12の流れは最高に渋くてかっこいい。
逆に明るくハッピーなイメージなら「party」や「Memory」があてはまるのかも。
「party」や「Memory」ではちょっと騒々しいと感じたときはぜひこのアルバムを。

Suburbiaを主催する橋本徹氏によるFree Soulコンピシリーズの中で一番最初に発売されたアルバム"Impressions"。最初のアルバムという事もあり、最も忠実にFree Soulの持つコンセプトに沿って選曲がなされているように思う。

Soul Musicを突き詰めていくと、様々な歴史（例えば人種問題、政治や戦争等による問題）や地域によってのルーツ等が複雑に入り組んで、なかなか一筋縄では理解出来ない所がある。そういった堅苦しい事情は置いておいて、Free Soulという言葉の"Free"にもあるように、聴いていて心地よさを感じたり、心を高揚させてくれる音楽を自由に聴いていこうというものが基本的なFree Soulのスタイルであるように思う。それだけにあまり型に嵌らない、ストレートに良いものが集められたアルバムだと思う。

Hip Hopネタとして重宝されているWeldon Irvineの"We Gettin' Down"や、Mighty Rydersの"Evil Vibrations"等もかなり聴き所であるように思うし、2曲収録されているJon Lucienなんかは、このFree Soulのブームがあったからこそ、一般的なRadio等で頻繁に流されるようになったアーティストであるようにも思う。また、Marvin Gayeの"Inner City Blues"やStevie Wonderの"Creepin'"のカバーバージョンといった従来のソウルファンにとっても興味を持つものも取り揃えているのも特徴の一つ。とても充実した面白い内容だと思う。

個人的にはやはりオープニングのBreakwaterの"Work It Out"が好きだ。これこそFree Soulらしい名曲だと思う。
