Solid Travel Guide to Spain

This is the latest in a series of detailed and useful Fodor travel guides to Spain. This particular volume has been of significant assistance as we plan our forthcoming trip to several cities in that country. We usually make our travel decisions after cross-referencing two or three respected travel guides and comments from reliable internet sites and friends. This is one of the guides we find useful. If you're on a budget, you might prefer Rick Steve's guide or Frommer's.
The previous reviewer's comment perhaps justifies marking down the rating by a star or two, but not trashing the entire book. Indeed, the book does note whether hotels, etc. are accessible to the disabled. Amazon should consider tossing out hyperbolic ratings like this one (including the many, even less defensible reviewers who give a book one star merely because they think the Kindle price is too high!).

Excellent Kindle edition of a helpful guidebook

Spain is a dynamic and diverse country comprised of several autonomous regions, each with its own character and flavor. This book strikes a good balance by giving enough content breadth across the various regions and depth within each region to help you plan and enjoy a satisfying vacation. I have lived in Spain and subsequently taken several trips there -- this guide showed me many new places to enjoy.
Having the content in a Kindle edition works particularly well on a tablet device with color, like the iPad, for maps and photos, highlighting and search features. The web links in the book are particularly helpful in getting more information on a point of interest, hotel, restaurant, etc. For someone planning a trip to Spain for a week or a month, this is an excellent value, particulary since the content can be stored on a single tablet device with other e-books.

Poor City Maps

I liked this guidebook overall but found the city maps very poor with very little detail. Maybe Fodor feels that everyone now has GPS so that good maps are no longer necessary. Fortunately, in Andaluisa we had a French Routard guide which had excellent maps. In other cities where we had to rely solely on Fodor, we had a difficult time finding our hotels since their locations were not shown on the maps, and very few street names were indicated.
