Full of action and interesting characters, Flip Flop grabs your attention from the first page. The story is set in the Bahamas for the most part, and the setting descriptions are believable, probably because the author claims to have years of experience as a deep sea fisherman in that area. Bo, the main character, and Darcy the sun-bunny, are initially one-dimensional people, but they don't stay that way. The plot takes some fantastic turns, but somehow Bloomfield manages to combine a high-tech, cutting-edge subplot with breath-taking descriptions of the Atlantic and Harbour Island. The dialogue is funny at times and touching at others, but always rings true. Some lines are particularly memorable, especially in the conversations between Bo and Darcy (and between Bo and his Bahamian friends). Bulldog, Bo's ever-loyal and gargantuan sidekick, is genuinely likable. In fact, this novel would make a great screen play! I can see Ben Affleck as Bo and Alicia Silverstone as Darcy. It would be a blockbuster. If you can't get away for some R and R in the Bahamas, Flip Flop is guaranteed to take you to a place where your dreams really could come true. I highly recommend this book - it has something for just about everyone!
